Dear Motor Sensei My 2003 Ford Mondeo turbodiesel will only return 28 miles per gallon. What can I do to improve this? Thanks Kev
Hello Kev This could be down to many things. Your car should average at least 40mpg across a mixture of journeys. If you drive lots of short trips (and the engine never gets properly warmed) then that figure's a fair one. Otherwise, does the car need a service? A change of oil and an emissions check could help. Ask the garage to check that the engine's turbo is working correctly, too. Checking the tyre pressures, clearing the car of clutter might help. Motor Sensei say wise man turn detective when no clear answer presents itself.
