Fuel aid for Britain
First it was the 10p tax ban, now it looks certain that Gordon Brown is going to make yet another U-turn in the dispute against proposed road tax charges.
Currently, motorists who own a car bought between 2001 and 2006 are exempt from the top tax band, but the revised budget tax rises will see a host of family cars purchased before March 2006 double their road tax from £210 to more than £430.
Yesterday, more than 1000 hauliers took to the streets of London in protest, urging the government to reconsider their plans to increase road tax and fuel prices. But isn’t there more than needs to be done?
Certainly, rolling road blocks are a great way to gain media attention, but what we really need is for the government to act NOW to provide petrol relief to those that really need it. How long can businesses survive when petrol is currently at a record £1.10p per litre?
How would you address the problem with Gordon and Alastair? If you are currently involved in a fuel protest, we want to hear from you.
