National chill out week, anyone?

Road rage. Terrifying when you’re a victim, scary and disturbing when you see it happen to others.

Now, the RAC says it is what worries drivers most – more than rising fuel costs, gridlock, or speed cameras. The RAC’s report says that a third of us have experienced road rage. But it also reports that half of those quizzed by the motoring organisation also admitted they’d sworn at other drivers, used obscene gestures, or worse.

The RAC is calling on the Government to highlight the problem and also to post more police to patrol as a deterrent. Sensible ideas, for sure.

But, from what the RAC says, the victims are also the offenders. Instead of threatening to lamp the driver in front, maybe the best way forward is for us all to chill out, ease back on the gas, and forgive those we share the road with. Perhaps we need a national ‘chill out on the roads’ week or even a ‘drive friendly’ month.
