Second hand cars that should be trashed
02/03/12
We hear the scrapyard calling for these particular motors: which one of these iconic, unusual cars do you think should be trashed? And if you’re the owner of a one of these second-hand cars, why do you love it so much? Let us know over on our Facebook page!
The hummer H2
That military car has been reinvented for cities and they have been quite a success. They even decided to create these beasts in a range of different colours. And pink is one of them. Hmm... Barbie would probably love this but we think it’s pretty ugly! Maybe in a different colour we could just about handle these monsters but pink is a touch too much.
Fiat Multipla
Fiat wanted to innovate but, as with any experiment, sometimes it can go wrong. This car just didn’t look nice. Originally this Multipla was supposed to be practical, which it isn’t, and on top of that it is pretty horrible looking. Bad luck!
Pontiac Aztek
This car had been criticised a lot when it was released in 2000 and it didn’t sell very much. It is now more famous for its ugliness rather than its performance. In 2008 the Telegraph.co.uk compiled a list of top 100 ugliest cars in history in which the Aztek came ... first. On top of that, it was in The Times’ Top 50 worst cars. So, overall, bit of a flop.
Alfa Romeo SZ
Usually Italian cars have a certain appealing design. Well, this Alpha Romeo SZ certainly didn’t. This car seems to be made for Robocop, don’t you think?
Citroën Ami
Sharp angles and a strange front end design make this car look slightly amphibian - but the production did last for more than 15 years. Not bad for a car that looks like it could be about to dive underwater.
Lamborghini LM002
Just like the Hummer H2, the Lamborghini LM002 is massive and ‘curves’ (or even ‘organic’) are a word the designers didn’t think of. Even the engines are much bigger than the Hummer! So we think this particular car should be left in the carpark…
Reliant Regal
Some three-wheeled cars are iconic, like the yellow van from Only Fools and Horses. And others should be condemned into the mists of time, as the Reliant Regal demonstrates. It looks like a Cadillac and a Robin Reliant had a baby.
Being a car designer is a hard job. No matter how many hours you spend slogging away at a beautiful design, it can all be ruined by the critics and what’s fashionable at the time. But without pioneering – and sometimes bizarre – designs like the ones above, we wouldn’t have beautiful cars either. So the cars can be trashed – but let’s keep the innovation!
