Dodge begins Journey this summer

May 7, 2008

If you like cars with a US-style twist, this newcomer to the Dodge model line-up may appeal. Called the Journey (a name only Americans could have chosen), this MPV reaches showrooms in August, costing from £16,995.

Dodge describes the car as a ‘five-plus-two’ seater, explaining that the rearmost seats are big enough for up to teenagers, but not really big enough for adults, unless on short trips. Like its range-mates, the Journey features a big, brash grille and prominent bonnet.

Size-wise it’s bigger than mid-size MPVs such as Ford’s C-Max or the Mazda 5 but not quite up there with a Renault Espace or Ford Galaxy. It’s closest in length and width to Ford’s S-Max.

To boost appeal, Dodge has loaded the car with equipment, so that even the cheapest comes with three-zone climate controlled air conditioning, tyre pressure monitoring and a 6-CD music system.

There’s a choice of a 2.4 petrol engine with a manual gearbox, or a 2.0 turbodiesel with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. There’ll be three trim levels, for which prices have yet to be fixed.
