The Ford Focus continued its long reign as England’s favourite car during MarchThe Focus stayed top as the all-important rush to be the first with a new 08-plate regisration got under way. This top-selling Ford has just undergone a facelift, and the 18,485 cars that went to their first owners were a mix of old and new models. Together they added up to 1 in 20 of all new cars sold in the month. Another Ford, the Fiesta, did almost as well to notch up 16,111 sales and take second place across the country. Vauxhall’s Corsa came third and its Astra, fourth.
The Fiesta’s popularity is despite it being an old model, due for replacement with an all-new and dramatically different car in the autumn. All up, the top 10 sellers accounted for one in four of all cars changing hands. That’s quite an achievement.
Across Britain as a whole, we bought almost 680,000 new cars. But, despite talk of an economic downturn that’s just 5000 fewer than were purchased during the first three months of 2007.
