Two days ago the powers that be at Rolls Royce released the first teaser image of their new model Wraith. The eagerly awaited new model from Rolls is still mostly shrouded in mystery; with teaser photos barely revealing the shape of the body, never mind the details. The Wraith is set to be launched on the 5th March at the Geneva Motor Show, but isn’t expected to go on sale until the fourth quarter of 2013; even then it is expected to start at a whopping £220,000.
If you were expecting the Wraith to be similar in shape to the Phantom Coupe you will be in for a shock. The new design is much sleeker than its predecessor with Rolls describing its “flowing lines that hint at the extraordinary power and dynamic promise of the most powerful Rolls-Royce in history.” The doors are rear hinged – a fact that is revealed by the placement of the handles – and the roof line seems to have a hint of a Bentley Continental GT to it.
Despite the promise of ‘the most powerful Rolls Royce in history’ no details of what lies under the hood have yet been released. We’re guessing at a 6.0 litre twin turbo V12 engine, but we will have to wait with bated breath. If the ‘spy pictures’ of the Wraith’s cold weather testing are anything to go by, there is definitely a great deal of power contained in the engine.
Rolls have been keen to highlight that the Wraith is still steeped in ‘contemporary luxury’ but are hoping that their newest model invokes ‘the pioneering spirit of the honourable Charles Rolls – a consummate gentleman racer.’ Although with the promise of the power waiting under the hood of this new beauty, we’re expecting this to become one of our newest ‘dream cars’.
