BMW has given its M4 super-coupe a makeover for this special edition model celebrating its victory in the German DTM racing series.

Marco Wittman secured another DTM title at the season finale at Hockenheimring last weekend. The M4 DTM Champion Edition gets racing technology and a body kit designed to mimic the track car.

Only available in Alpine White, it comes with the blue and red stripes associated with BMW’s motorsport ‘M’ division. DTM cars are famous for their wild aerodynamic styling, so the M4 gets new bumpers to give a more aggressive look.

The front splitter, winglets near the front wheel arches, rear diffuser and large rear wing are among the aerodynamic parts finished in gloss carbon fibre.

The car is based on the hardcore M4 GTS, and as such it gets the same performance-enhancing technology. The 493bhp, 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine features innovative water-injection technology. This cools the combustion chambers and makes the engine work more efficiently.

All this helps the M4 DTM go from 0 to 62mph in 3.8 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 190mph.

Because this is the racier, less practical version of the M4, the interior has been stripped back to save weight. Two carbon-fibre bucket seats hold the driver and passenger firmly in place, while Alcantara and leather cover almost every surface.

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is on sale now, however, the price has not been confirmed. The limited-run GTS cost £121,780 before all were quickly snapped up, so expect this car to be in that ballpark.
