You may think getting your car serviced regularly is a hassle you can do without. After all, it doesn’t really make much difference to your car, does it?
Well, think again. A car without a full service history is worth less when you come to sell it. A lot less.
In fact, according to those experts at Auto Express, your car could be worth a whopping 10 per cent less than if all your paperwork is up to date.
They quote the example of a Nissan Juke. If you have it from new and, three years later, want to sell it, it would have cost you £567 in service bills.
A three-year-old 1.5 dCi Tekna model will be worth £9,150 if it has covered about 36,000 miles. So if you don’t have a complete service record, it will be worth about 10 per cent less – in other words, you’ll be £915 worse off when you come to sell.
Buyers are always keen to see the service history, says Auto Express, because it reassures buyers the car’s mileage is accurate, that it has been regularly serviced and highlights any repair work carried out. It gives the impression the car has been well cared for.
