Citroen history

André Citroën produced armaments during the First World War. Once it was over, he realised that he was going to find himself with a purposeless factory, so he decided to use it to build automobiles.

In March 1919, the Citroën Type A was announced to the press. Customers started taking delivery in July that same year. The company earned a reputation for being a quirky alternative to the likes of Ford.

In 1976, Citroën partnered with Peugeot, merging them into one company – PSA Group. This has remained the state of the business ever since, with luxury-focused brand DS joining as well.

Owning a Citroen

PSA Group is one of the top 10 car manufacturers in the world. Citroen makes a wide variety of practical everyday cars and sells roughly 3,000,000 per year.

Citroën is also one of the world’s top 20 most reliable carmakers, a factor that no doubt contributes to the brand’s success.

Citroen range overview

Citroen focuses on practical everyday cars. Small hatchbacks come in the forms of the C1, C3 and fully electric C-Zero.

The C3 Picasso, C4 and C4 Cactus are somewhat larger and offer extra space for families. Even bigger still are the C4 Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso and SpaceTourer.

Citroen also makes a range of vans for commercial use – the Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay.
