Hyundai ix35

The Hyundai ix35 started appearing on Britain's roads in 2009. It's a crossover vehicle that has the styling features of a full off-roader, while being designed for mainly driving on the road.

It is an impressive-looking, chunky five-door hatchback that is available in front or four-wheel drive versions. The ix35 offers the high driving position that gives you a commanding view of the road, as well as Hyundai's traditional strengths of reliability and high specification.

The Korean crossover also boasts a good quality cabin, thanks to the combination of quality materials and durable engineering. All vehicles get heated front and rear seats, and there's a big practical boot too - which grows even bigger with the rear seats folded down. Look out too for lots of useful cubby-holes around the car - the ix35 is a vehicle with the practicality of an MPV.

It also the sportiness of a coupe too, thanks to agile handling and grip through the corners. And both the petrol and diesel engines offer economy and power - the 2L CRDI claims almost 50mpg on the combined cycle.

The equipment levels on the Hyundai are remarkable. All models get parking sensors, hill-descent control, air-conditioning, trip computer, Bluetooth and 17 alloys. Opt for the top spec and you'll also find twin sunroofs, auto lights and wipers and keyless entry.
