Mazda 323

If there’s one thing Mazda is good at, it’s producing cars that are excellent value for money. The 323 is a small family car that has all the hallmarks of the Japanese brand and is actually quite impressive. Decent to look at, practical and reliable, it’s a great choice if you’re after a relatively cheap car that seems to do everything well.

In the world of motoring, any car that’s over 10 years old could be classed as a veteran, but the Mazda 323 is in another league entirely. It’s been around in one form or another since 1964, and although production ended in 2003, popularity is still there. A hugely versatile auto, it’s available in 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door saloon and 5 door wagon formats. Clearly there’s something for everyone then.

When it comes to design, Mazdas of old weren’t notable at all, however this has changed in modern times and across the board there are some very nice visuals. Indeed the most modern generation of the 323 is decent albeit conservative, but that’s not a bad thing at all. While the interior is quite plain, it does the job wonderfully and is packed full of equipment, space, and comfortable seating. As a family car these are all important features, as is practicality, which the Mazda has in abundance thanks to a large boot and multiple cabin storage spaces.

The 323 actually drives very well and is happy on all types of road. A range of different engines give you a good balance of power and economy without going overboard, and the handling is solid too. Even though the ride is a little firm, the Mazda is composed in the corners and has a lot of grip, and some impressive brakes; this means you can be confident in almost every bend. It’s a great car to drive everyday and continually demonstrates why Mazdas are up there with the best.

Most Japanese cars offer excellent value for money and this Mazda is no different. There’s a plethora of pre owned ones at Motors.co.uk, so paying less and getting more is what it’s all about. Second hand cars for sale are massively cheap thanks to supreme price discounts, so you really will get a bargain with a used Mazda 323.

Plainly then, if you’re after a small family car that’s well built, reliable and practical, the Mazda 323 should be well up your street. It’s a solid all rounder that doesn’t disappoint, but keeps plugging away and does the job with minimal fuss. Newer versions have the edge in the design stakes, and come in several different models. Whatever your motoring needs, the 323 could meet them quite easily.
