MG MGF

The MG MGF is a small two seat roadster released in the twilight years of the famous British motoring company. It looked fantastic and was equally as good to drive thanks to its diminutive proportions and fine balance. A great way to spend a hot summer’s day, cruising around back roads with the roof down is exactly what this type of car is intended for, and it performs superbly.

Despite the company’s dwindling fortunes, the F was released in 1995 and went on to enjoy 10 years of production that ceased in 2005. Under different owners, the car made a short lived comeback from 2007 to 2011 as well. Famed for its sporty nature and excellent driving experience, a few different models were released, including several different generations and the upgraded TF.

It really does look the business and is everything a small roadster should be. The happy, almost smiling front end gives it a lot of character, and the ‘air intakes’ at the bottom of the doors are just awesome. Whether the roof is up or down, there’s certainly no mistaking it. But while the build quality might not have been the best, there’s a lot to like about the interior too. It’s relatively spacious and the cockpit looks nice with the ‘white on black’ speedometer and rev counters. There isn’t much kit, and the boot is relatively small, but none of that really matters.

With a mid engine and rear wheel drive setup, the MGF is wonderful to drive and is incredibly perky and sprightly thanks to some small but punchy engines. The handling is supremely confident and there’s a wealth of grip in the turns. While the ride might be rather firm for some, real drivers will be able to see past it and enjoy the car for what it is- a sporty roadster that’s incredibly responsive.

Motors.co.uk is unquestionably one of the best places around to find a second hand MG MGF. Listing thousands of different used cars for sale at some astonishingly discounted prices, it’s a one way ticket to an absolute bargain. The fact that quality is never overlooked means everything will be supremely good, and that means you get a lot of bang for your buck. With the MG, that’s music to the ears of any motoring enthusiast.

The simple fact is that MG might be gone, but with cars like the F and TF it’s certainly not forgotten. Small but perfectly formed, there’s a lot to love about the tiny two door roadster. Whether it’s the lively handling or simply cruising around with the roof down, it’s certainly the best of British and represents tremendous value these days.
