Peugeot 306

The Peugeot 306 is a car with a big reputation that has been built up thanks to its undeniable popularity. It’s a fantastic car that appeals to a wide range of motorists and is renowned for an excellent drive, total value for money and typically French styling. Immense at its peak, the 306 still holds a lot of appeal today, so if you want a cheap runabout that’s a whole lot of fun, keep reading.

With a life that spanned from 1993 until 2002, the 306 always had strong sales figures across Europe and particularly in the UK. It was certainly a versatile car, being offered in 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door saloon, 5 door estate and 2 door cabriolet models. The fact it catered to a vast motoring audience was one of the many appeals. It has to be said that the hatchback was one of the standout versions though, especially in GTI form.

The exterior design is classic Peugeot through and through. While it might not be as fancy as some modern cars, it was certainly cutting edge back in the day, and has a certain arrogance about it that only made it more alluring. Across the board, all variants of the 306 were solid inside, sporting some typically ‘90s’ designs and materials, but that’s not a bad thing. A decent amount of kit, quite a lot of space and good levels of practicality are all plus points.

Out on the road, the 306 was excellent to drive, particularly the hatchback. Well balanced with some sharp steering and good grip, the whole experience is actually a lot of fun. Even the larger saloon and estate models go well, and the tiny cabriolet is no exception either. A plethora of different engines deliver a lot of punch and decent economy, but for the biggest thrills the 2.0 litre 16. found on the GTI-6 hatchback is essential.

The honest truth is that you’ll have no trouble getting your hands on a used Peugeot 306 because there are loads available. At Motors.co.uk however you’ll be entitled to some huge price discounts and will find a generally high quality of auto that won’t disappoint in the slightest. The 306 was value for money back in the day, but now it’s off the charts.

So what the Peugeot 306 is then is a fantastically versatile car that appeals to a broad range of motorists. It’s got good 90s designs, a lot of kit and an unfussy ‘get in and drive’ nature that’s very appealing. Whether you go for the hatchback, estate, saloon or cabriolet, you’ll be seriously impressed. Quality and enjoyment never goes out of fashion, and the Peugeot has masses of it.
