Porsche 968

The Porsche 968 is a sports car from the 1990s that definitely talks the talk and walks the walk. It’s nice to look at, lively in performance a lot of fun to drive. A bit of a collector’s item these days, the 968 is hot property and looked upon very highly. Savvy buyers on the hunt for a cheaper offering from the famous German company should get this over a 911 any day.

Unveiled in 1992, the front engine, front wheel drive layout certainly works to its advantage, and the 968 is actually one of the finest handling cars of this type around. Powered by some bulky 3.0 litre engines, including a turbo, it might not have the out right speed of some modern day siblings, but there’s still plenty to play with under the bonnet. When production ceased in 1995, only 12,776 had been produced, which makes the Porsche quite exclusive. Versions such as the 968 Cabriolet, ClubSport, Turbo S and Turbo RS are particularly sought after.

The great thing about the 968 is that it doesn’t look like a regular Porsche (911). It’s not particularly curvaceous, and sports some sharper angles and straight lines instead. A rather doe eyed front end, and the nice lift back are all interesting features. Go inside and you’ll see a nicely decorated interior that’s got leather trim, comfortable seats and a lot of equipment- pretty much everything you’d expect from an up market motor.

One of the best things about the Porsche is the way it drives, which is superbly. A perfect balance from the chassis and engine mean it’s wonderful in the corners and very refined and predictable overall. Sharp handling and a comfortable ride mean it’s quite the GT car, and you’ll have enough performance from the engine to keep a smile firmly etched to your face.

Finding a second hand Porsche 968 could be a challenge for some people as the model is quite rare and popular with collectors and enthusiasts. Check out the massive range of used cars for sale here at Motors.co.uk though, because the chances are you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for. Reduced prices and nothing but exceptional quality means it’ll be sooner rather than later before you bag that bargain.

Plainly then, the Porsche 968 is very much a bone fide sports car, and has a lot to shout about even though it’s been out of production for years. Great designs, a phenomenal drive and a sumptuously styled interior make it a great all rounder that can be used for daily driving or cruising around foreign parts on holiday. What’s clear though is that it’s just as much fun, if not more than an older 911.
