Renault Modus

MPVs are all the rage these days, and the Renault Modus aims to target the smaller sized end of the market. Essentially a taller version of the Clio with more interior space, the Modus is perfect for people who want the characteristics of a hatchback and a people carrier rolled into one tidy package.

Available since 2004, the Modus comes in 5 door, front wheel drive format. It’s a typical Renault in that it looks great and has a whole heap of character, and these are just two of the factors that have contributed to its popularity. The Grand Modus was released in 2008 which was simply a bigger version with slightly redesigned features.

Unquestionably fun and friendly, just looking at the Modus you get a good feeling. It has a happy attitude about it which is translated through its smiling front end and modest body styling. The interior is just as welcoming, and has a surprising amount of leg room given its Clio DNA. There’s no shortage of headspace however, and overall comfort isn’t a problem. You get a good view of the road thanks to a higher driving position, and the cockpit is well designed with some handy controls.

With some innovative features such as a split opening boot with a handy ‘chute’ that makes it easy to load up in tight spaces, and storages areas below seat cushions at the front, practicality is certainly high on the list too.

The Modus is sensitive to drive and goes well on the whole. It has some adequate steering and quite a small turning circle which makes it easy to manoeuvre in towns. There’s also a comfortable ride and a series of small but sprightly engines that deliver a nice amount of punch without sacrificing economy. Overall it’s competent, but not a Clio.

With thousands of different used cars for sale in its database, Motors.co.uk is one of the best places online to bag a bargain. Substantial price discounts mean you’ll pay less and get more, so considering a second hand Renault Modus makes a lot of sense. The great thing is that quality is an aspect that’s not overlooked by any means, so what you’ll find are some seriously good autos.

At the end of the day, people want solutions to everyday problems, and that’s exactly what the Renault Modus is. You get a combination of a hatchback and an MPV, which sounds rather obtuse but works very well. All the space with less of the size means it’s a good option for families, and being economical as well as amazingly easy to drive gives it a leg up over the competition.
