BMW Z3
The BMW Z3 is a small two seat roadster that has bags of charm and a lot of personality. It’s certainly stylish and there’s a great driving experience in there too. The whole purpose of getting a car of this ilk is to drive along with a smile on your face and the wind in your hair on a hot summer’s day; the Z3 doesn’t disappoint.
Originally introduced in 1996 as a cabriolet, the BMW was also available in coupe form, although the former was significantly more popular. It was always destined for greatness having appeared in GoldenEye, one of the best ever James Bond films, and high sales figures cemented its place in history. The Z3 bowed out in 2002.
Its appeal is undeniable as it looks great and does exactly what it says on the tin. The unique and quirky design gives it quite a friendly feeling, but at the same time you get all the quality associated with the BMW marque. Inside the Z3 is comfortable and yet quite spacious for a smaller car. There’s an adequate boot, a solid amount of kit and you can tell that a lot of care and attention has been put into the trim design.
A compact roadster should be speedy, nippy and full of beans, and the BMW certainly is. While its more of a tiny GT car, there’s definitely no compromise in terms of the driving experience. It handles well in the corners, the ride is solid, and there’s a wealth of engines available, but if you really want to get the best out of the car go for the higher end 2.2-3.0 litre ones. There’s even a Z3 M which is altogether mental.
While the Z3 wasn’t the most expensive BMW by any means, it was still quite pricey.
