Chrysler Neon
The Chrysler Neon is a small front wheel drive car with some quirky designs and bags of character. It’s a great little run around for families who want something well made that doesn’t cost a lot. Full of equipment, it’s excellent value for money, and you get the feeling it wants to be driven.
First introduced in 1995, the Neon stuck around for 10 years, and several generations and upgraded versions were released during that time. When production ceased in 2005, the Chrysler had proved itself a popular car around the world, having been sold under various different brand names. It could be bought in coupe and saloon forms, so was more than versatile enough to accommodate the needs of families with small children.
The curvaceous shape gives it a friendly look, although its small headlights are place too far apart and make it look continually confused. It is quite welcoming however, even if a little dated. With a comfortable interior that’s minimalist at best in terms of design, there’s a lot of equipment that’s easy to use and the controls are very tactile. A good amount of cabin space means it’s decent enough to accommodate 4 people, although the rear might be cramped for taller individuals. There’s also a decent sized boot.
This is a budget friendly car after all, so expecting something life changing in terms of the driving experience just isn’t realistic. Having said that though, it’s a lot of fun and can be thrown around the road with ease. The steering is sharp and there’s a good amount of grip in the bends; a firm ride makes it hold the road well, but could be too harsh on the poorest of roads. Equipped with some small engines, such as the 2.0 litre petrol, it’s not fast but will get you there with minimal fuss.
