Daewoo Lanos
The Daweoo Lanos is a subcompact car from the South Korean automaker and is exactly what you’d expect from a motor from that neck of the woods. It’s cheap and cheerful, reliable, easy to drive, and newer models are actually not all that bad to look at. A fantastic option for people on a budget who want something solid, families will love it.
Marketed under a whole host of different names, the Lanos was produced between 1997 and 2002, although it’s still made under license in some countries. A versatile motor, it was built in 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door saloon and 2 door panel van variants. Equipped with a range of small but sprightly engines, there was also an array of different trim levels that included some decent levels of kit.
In terms of design, the Daweoo isn’t exactly stylish, but neither is it ugly. While the most modern versions feature improved front ends and some nice curves, overall it’s quite a ‘middle of the road’ kind of car. Inside things are nicely styled, put together well and very intuitive to use. There’s a nice amount of space and the seats are comfortable, although room in the back isn’t that great in smaller versions. Solidly equipped however, there’s a generous boot space, especially in the 5 door hatchback and panel van models.
On the driving front, it’s much the same story to be honest- good all round but not outstanding. It handles well and the punchy engines get it there, but don’t expect anything overly sporty. Great for pottering around at low speeds, it does car parks and towns easily, but motorways might be a bit of a challenge. Overall the Daweoo is more than suitable for the automotive needs of most families.
The great thing about the Lanos is that it didn’t cost a great deal back when it was new, and there are some superb second hand deals to be had nowadays. Motors.co.uk is a proverbial ocean stocked full of potential catches. An unshakable approach to only listing high quality cars for sale, as well as some huge price reductions, and there’s more than enough scope to really hook a monster. Get a used Daewoo Lanos and enjoy value motoring at its best.
Basically the Lanos is a typical South Korean car, and it’s all the better for it. While it certainly doesn’t try to re-invent the wheel or provide huge excitement, what it does do is carry on in a solid and reliable fashion. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, but not cheap when it comes to equipment, it’s a great car for cash strapped buyers.
