Daewoo Matiz
The Daewoo Matiz is a tiny supermini that couldn’t be better suited for city driving; it’s nippy, excitable and very easy to park. With some quirky designs, especially on newer models, it’s every inch the stylish run-around for city slickers, small families or people on a budget.
First released in 1998, there’s been a plethora of different versions and upgrades over the years, but the Matiz has kept the same characteristics that made it popular in the first place- a small size, low prices and cheap running costs. Available as a 5 door hatchback, there’s no question it’s cheap and cheerful, which is where the appeal lies.
From the outside the Daweoo has always been rather nice to look at, although it has to be said that newer models are much more stylish with an array of sexy curves, sharp angles and clear lines. The interior is what you’d expect from a budget friendly car- uncomplicated and easy to use. It’s well laid out and the chunky controls are within reach; there’s also a solid amount of kit and decent levels of practicality, which is surprising for such a small car.
The Matiz isn’t fast by any means, in fact it’s actually quite slow. But that doesn’t matter in the slightest because performance is well down the list in terms of selling points. Despite this, it’s wonderful around town and perky to drive in and out of traffic. The handling is good and it can turn on a 50 pence piece, which is exactly what you need to negotiate tight turns. There are several different engines available though, so if you venture out of town on a regular basis, a more powerful version would suit.
Look, this isn’t an expensive car to buy brand new in the first place, but going the second hand route can uncover some real treasures. Motors.co.uk really does have a sublime selection of pre owned cars for sale, so paying less for a used Daweoo Matiz is all but a given. You’ll get a great deal for sure.
So what the Daweoo Matiz is all about is small scale motoring on a budget. As far as city cars go, it’s a solid option that’ll get you from A to B with minimal fuss. While it’s not that fast, it looks pretty good and offers decent levels of practicality. If you’re looking for something cheap to run that can negotiate anything the urban jungle can conjure, the Matiz is a magnificent option.
