Dodge Journey
The Dodge Journey is a typical American crossover SUV. It’s big, uncomplicated and has an unquestionably commanding presence. With a shed load of interior space, 7 seats and a whole heap of kit, it’s certainly a car that makes you sit up and take note. Compared to regular European brands, it’s a deviation from the norm and a great option to check out.
Released in 2008, the Journey has had several revisions and facelifts, and has become even more aggressive. With 5 doors and a hatchback boot, it’s certainly practical and is best suited to families who want a lot of space. In true Dodge style, this car is a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of beast, but actually that’s not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.
With an abundance of attitude, the Journey is a bit of a brute from the outside. Everything seems to be oversized, from the wheels to the windows and even the badge that’s proudly mounted to the front grille. The interior is incredibly spacious, but there is a lot of cheap looking plastic. Despite this, everything is arranged in a logical fashion and is easy to use. The seats are somewhat comfortable, but aren’t great for long trips, which is a bit of a shame. One thing that is excellent though is the amount of space you get in the boot with all the seats down- a panel van would struggle to keep up.
True to its American roots, the Dodge is a big softy out on the road, but it has to be said the ride is very firm indeed. With some relatively competent steering, it’s easy to keep it in a straight line, but around corners you’ll have to be awake. A plethora of petrol and diesel engines offer performance or economy, with the 2.0 litre diesel being the best of the lot. This car is best used for cruising around as it doesn’t like to be hurried at speed.
Actually the Journey is excellent value for money as the whole package gives you a lot for very little when brand new; buying second hand however can take this off the charts. At Motors.co.uk you’ll see a selection of pre owned cars for sale that numbers well into the thousands, and with huge price reductions, there’s every reason to dive in and take a look. A used Dodge Journey will be a fantastic bargain in every regard.
At the end of the day, the Dodge Journey is an out and out American cruiser that makes no qualms about what it is. While European brands might offer more refinement and a better overall drive, the Journey has an exceptional level of kit and is much more practical. Families who are looking for a large car but don’t want to pay a great deal will struggle to find a better package.
