Jaguar XJR
The Jaguar XJR is a higher performance version of the XJ8 luxury saloon. It features similar designs but looks tauter and more athletic somehow. With incredible performance, the main difference between this and the original is the fact it has a supercharged engine. Luxurious, awesome to drive and quintessentially British, it’ll take one look at the Europeans and scare them away.
Unchained in 2003, a few different models have been released since, all of them decidedly beastly. The 2007 model is particularly impressive with its 4.2 litre supercharged V8 engine that produces 390 horsepower, goes from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 160. Rear wheel drive, it’s a triumph of engineering that never fails to delight.
Some subtle style variances can be seen on the XJR, namely the wire mesh front grille, larger side sills and a beefier front bumper. It looks exceptionally good, and things are much the same inside. Loaded with more kit than an electronics store, the cabin is comfortable and reasonably spacious, with some sporty seats and an array of high quality materials. You’ll be able to cruise around in absolute luxury while breaking the sound barrier.
Unbelievably fast, the supercharger really makes all the difference. It’s like someone has taken the regular 4.2 litre power plant and injected it with weapons grade plutonium. It’s a hell raiser, a wild child and a definite carnivore when pushed hard, but most of the time it’s nice and docile, only showing its true colours when you press the accelerator particularly hard. Easy to drive, there’s a lot of grip and some good traction thanks to huge tyres. It’s just epic.
Rather expensive to buy when it was a brand new offering, you can find some amazing deals these days in the world of pre owned cars for sale. Indeed Motors.co.uk has a monumental selection of second hand autos at hugely reduced prices, and you can’t help but get a great deal. With a used Jaguar XJR, you’ll spend less for a car that offers luxury and performance in abundance.
The clear fact is that the Jaguar is a performance machine through and through, but it has all the trappings that made the original XJ8 so popular. Supremely comfortable, spacious and regal, it’s easy to use and quite practical. Get it mad though and it’ll go for the jugular, which is exactly why you should get one!
