Jaguar XJS
The Jaguar XJS is a big 2 door sports car that’s a real grand tourer at heart. A bone fide classic that can proudly take its place in history having brought quite a lot to the British motoring scene. With its juggernaut V12 engines, refined style and effortless elegance, it’s the ideal choice for those people searching for a ‘collectable’ car that’s hugely impressive.
With a 21 year production life that ran from 1975 to 1996, the XJS could be called a bit of a veteran, but the exceptional build quality and huge power plants mean there’s still life in the old dog yet. Various different models were made available over the years, and the Jag could be bought in coupe and cabriolet forms. It had a sporty attitude throughout and could actually keep up with some similar cars from the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
It’s just wonderful to look at and has everything you’d expect from a classic Jaguar- a long profile, curious curves and some lovely headlights that give it character. Obviously a high quality car from head to toe, things are much the same inside too, where the cabin is rather lavish. A decent amount of space for the times, and no lack of exciting materials and finish details meant it was comfortable and excelled at being a luxury GT car.
Not the smallest or lightest of cars that Jaguar has produced, it was supremely powerful due to a series of V12 engines, although its original release in the middle of a fuel crisis couldn’t have been worse timed. It’s a fast car and each upgraded version has featured some extent of performance improvement. Not really known for its handling ability, the XJS is more comfortable as a cruiser rather than a back road blaster, but it’s still a lot of fun wherever you take it.
There aren’t many XJS cars out there to buy compared to other older Jags, so its exclusivity is a plus point; most are in the hands of collectors, museums or non-enthusiasts. Despite this, you can still find a good one at Motors.co.uk and the best thing is that you’ll pay a heavily discounted rate for it. Listing nothing but the highest quality cars for sale, you really can find a fantastic used Jaguar XJS with little effort.
So this car is a real classic performance tourer that’s steeped in luxury and is still very much in demand today. While it’s not as famous as some other models, there remains a lot to like about it, so if you’re desperate to go fast, look good and be the epitome of a 1970s sporting gent, there’s not much out there that can trump the XJS.
