Used Land Rover
Although Land Rover is now owned by and Indian Company Tata Motors, it still remains a quintessential British car company. Cars manufactured under the Land Rover brand are mainly four wheel drive vehicles.
Land Rover cars include the original land Rover, the Discovery, the Freelander and the Range Rover.
There were three series of the original Land Rover and they were based on the design of an American Jeep. Production of the third series ceased in 1985.
The Discovery was launched in 1989 and it is currently in its third generation. It was a quantum leap ahead of the original Land Rover and each new model has incorporated many updates, particularly in terms of off-road technology. In its latest edition, there are sophisticated electronic systems to control hill descent and a very flexible suspension system that adjusts according to terrain. Most have either 2.7 litre or 3.0 litre diesel engines.
The Freelander first made an appearance in 1997 and there have been several updates since then. The Freelander is a highly refined off roader and it is really a multi-purpose vehicle that is often used for the school run, motorway cruising and off-road fun. Many use it as a caravan towing car as it is great for dragging that caravan from fields that have turned to mud. It is also a very economical car for its class and is also available in a two wheel drive format. It is a popular used car choice.
The Range Rover was launched in 1994 and it is a car that combines superb off road performance with luxury. Essentially, it is an up-market off-roader and the price as a new car is quite high, though excellent used Range Rover bargains can be found at Motors.co.uk.
There is also a Range Rover Sport. This was launched in 2005 and is a little smaller than the conventional Range Rover. It is available in a number of configurations the fastest of which is the 4.2 litre supercharged petrol engine model, which has a 0 to 62 mph acceleration rime of just 7.6 seconds.
