Widnes
Situated in the west of Cheshire on the banks of the River Mersey, Widnes is a town with a population of 54,000 that was heavily industrialised during the 18th century. Positioned to the west of Warrington, south of St Helens and south east of Liverpool, it’s easy to see why it was such a power house back in the day.
Before the Industrial Revolution, the town was small and not overly developed; however this changed dramatically as Widnes became a centre for chemical production. The creation of railways and canals, as well as the natural location on the Mersey meant it was perfectly placed, and boomed as a result.
In the modern era, Widnes continues to produce chemicals, but has also diversified into the warehousing and retail sectors. Indeed the Greenoaks Centre is a major attraction and landmark. One of the most famous things about the town though is the rugby league club, Widnes Vikings.
While Widnes might look rather fenced in by urbanisation, the truth is that it’s only a short distance into the countryside, and there’s a monstrous amount to check out. Whether you head south into Cheshire proper, east to the Peak District, or North to the Yorkshire Dales, the simple fact is that this area of England is made for adventurous drivers, and rewards them with incredible roads, variable terrain and stunning views.
There’s really nowhere in the UK that Motors.co.uk doesn’t cover, and it’s possible to find some remarkable second hand cars for sale in Widnes, as well as the larger towns and cities that surround it. The great thing is that because prices are so low, you’ll always get a good deal, but the kicker is the super high quality. Essentially it means paying next to nothing for something that’s not overly different from brand new; and people wonder why used cars are so popular.
