Lisburn
The city of Lisburn can be found in Northern Ireland to the south west of Belfast. Although it forms part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area, it was granted city status in its own right in 2002. Home to about 72,000 people, it is the third largest city in the state.
Rather a historic place, the origins date back to the 1600s. A centre for linen in the 18th century, it saw a lot of prosperity during this time. Not untouched by the Troubles in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, it was also an important military position during the Cold War. These days it’s an important point on the Belfast-Dublin Corridor, and as such has exceptional transport links to both cities.
Home to several sports teams, including Lisburn Distillery football club, St Patricks GAA gaelic football club, and a cricket club to name a few.
Surrounded by some beautiful landscapes, Lisburn is definitely well positioned for drivers to experience the best of Northern Ireland. There are small towns and villages a-plenty to check out, and some wonderfully varied terrain means it’ll never get boring. From Lough Neagh to coastal areas, there’s a lot to see without travelling that far.
