Derry
Londonderry, known as Derry for short, is Northern Ireland’s second largest city. Located in the north western part of the country, the central part itself has a population of 84,000, while the wider area has over 100,000 inhabitants. A modern UK City for Culture, there’s also a hugely diverse history looking back in time.
One of the oldest settlements in the country, Derry has been around since the 6th century, and was a religious centre back then. A royal charter in 1662 added the London prefix to the name, and the 1688 Siege of Derry saw much of it destroyed. It became an important port later on in life, especially during the Second World War. Not untouched by the Troubles, perhaps the most infamous event in the city’s history was the Bloody Sunday in 1972.
Today, Derry is known for being a cultural centre, and many artists and musicians call it home. Comedy festivals, carnivals and a thriving night life area all important features as well. Sport is also a notable fabric of the city’s daily life, featuring several association football teams, the Derry GAA Gaelic football club, numerous rugby teams and also cricket clubs.
Once you escape the confines of the city, the scenery is just brilliant, and provides a lot of fun for drivers. Variable terrain means it’s certainly not monotonous, and whether you’re looking to head to the coast or take to the hills, the good road network makes getting around very easy indeed.
One of the best ways to find high quality used cars for sale in Derry is simply to visit Motors.co.uk. Listing over 150,000 second hand autos in total, it covers the whole of the UK, and there’s a great selection in Northern Ireland especially. Very low costs mean you’ll pay almost pennies for something of a fantastic standard, and ultimately come away with a phenomenal deal. Who said motoring has to be expensive?
