Harlow
Harlow is a town in the west of Essex that borders Hertfordshire and has a population of around 79,000. Twinned with a variety of towns including Tingalpa in Australia, Havirov in the Czech Republic and Stravanger in Norway, it was built in the Post War years as a New Town.
There’s history in the area dating as far back as 10,000 BC, however it was during the late 1940s and 1950s that the New Town itself was built. With several different neighbourhoods, each with its own pub and shopping area, it was a very modern area at the time.
Much redevelopment has been put into the town in the last few years, and it serves as an important commuter area for London. New houses and roads have been constructed, as well as a new civic centre. A plethora of businesses can also be found in Harlow, and do some degree to offset the downturn in manufacturing.
Harlow’s location to the north of London means it’s fantastically positioned to take advantage of motorway links. However drivers who want a bit of excitement will be awe struck with some of the countryside that’s around the town and the county. All manner of small villages connected by lanes and back roads are there to be explored, and really it’s like a playground for people who love being behind the wheel.
