St Albans
St Albans is a city in the county of Hertfordshire, and is situated north of London, east of Oxford and south west of Cambridge. A major commuter location to the capital, the population is around the 65,000 mark and a plethora of different places around the world are twinned with it, including Fano in Italy, Worms in Germany and Nevers in France to name a few.
There’s no disputing the long history of settlement around the city, and Roman ruins can still be seen today. An important market and religious area in the Middle Ages, it was also a major stopping point on the stage coach route to London from northern areas. Significant growth was seen after the Second World War thanks to the New Towns initiative.
