Welwyn Garden City
Welwyn Garden City is a town in Hertfordshire that is positioned north of London, south east of Luton and south west of Cambridge. It was one of the first Post War New Towns in England, and has a population of 45,000.
The town takes its name from the popular style of urban design from the early 20th century, and was actually the second garden city in the country. With healthy living, open space and much greenery high on the agenda, Welwyn features some excellent architecture and draws visitors from all over the world.
A modern day commuter location for London, the town is home to many big businesses, and the breakfast cereal Shredded Wheat was once manufactured there. A range of notable features can be seen, such as the Gosling Sports Centre, Panshanger Airfield, and numerous golf courses- at one of which Nick Faldo learnt his trade.
Welwyn Garden City is actually an important dormitory town, but it’s also quite good for drivers as well. Positioned right next to the A1M, it’s possible to get almost anywhere with ease, but the real attraction of the area is when you get away from all the manic activity and delve deeper into the surrounding countryside. Some awesome driving roads are on offer in Hertfordshire and nearby counties, so it’s just a case of following your nose and seeing where you end up.
