Gillingham
The town of Gillingham is located in Kent, and is home to about 100,000 people. Twinned with Ito and Yokosuka in Japan, it’s part of the Medway unitary authority, having previously been a non-metropolitan district, borough and urban district.
An important port throughout Medieval times right up until the 1950s, Chatham Dockyard was closed in the 1980s. Previously the area had been of strategic importance to the Royal Navy and featured in various civil and European wars right back to the 1700s. As such, numerous defences and military buildings can be found in the area, as well as memorials.
A popular business location today, thanks to the construction of the Gillingham Business Park, the town is also an important centre for retail in the Medway area. The direct train lines to London also put it firmly in the commuter belt.
Home to Gillingham Town F.C, football has been at the centre of the town’s identity for many years. There are also some new sporting developments such as the Medway Park which feature swimming pools, gyms and a myriad of other things. Interestingly, the town also has an ice hockey arena, which is base for the Invicta Dynamos.
With Kent being one of the best counties for driving in England, once you leave the urbanised Gillingham area behind, it’s really something special. The county is lush, green and features some truly fantastic back roads to cruise around. With the coast only a short distance away, anything is possible, but rest assured that you’ll have a lot of fun behind the wheel.
The abundance of used cars for sale in Gillingham at Motors.co.uk should come as no surprise as it’s really a premier Britain wide website for quality second hand autos. With literally thousands listed, it’s incredibly easy to find the right one to meet your motoring needs, and the best thing is that prices have been well and truly slashed.
