Oxford
The ‘county town’ of Oxfordshire, Oxford actually holds city status and is home to one of the oldest and most famous universities in the world. Positioned to the north west of London and east of Gloucester, its population figure is around 154,000 and it sits next to the Cotswolds.
Oxford has been a settlement since Saxon times, and was taken over by the Normans in 1066. Gaining prestige during the 12th century, the university and several colleges were founded during this time.
