The Mazda Tribute is a crossover SUV that offers practicality, durability and value for money in abundance. Despite being several years old, it’s still a viable option for families who want something hardy but would prefer not to spend a fortune. Solid performance means it can turn its hand to almost anything, and the 4 wheel drive setup allows it to tackle anything British roads can throw at it.
Introduced back in 2001, the Tribute was developed in conjunction with Ford, who released the similar Escape. Several models have come into existence over the years, with designs that have gone from outwardly sporty to incredibly muscular. Some good engines are also available, including 2.0 Zetec and 3.0 litre V6 Durtec petrols that deliver a bit of life.
In terms of design, the Tribute looks hardy and doesn’t mess about; there’s no trying to disguise the fact it’s a bit of a monster, and actually elements like the plastic side sills emphasise it nicely. Inside it’s just huge, and 5 people can sit in comfort. While the overall style might be rather bland, it’s long lasting and laid out in a logical manner. Nicely equipped, there’s also a relatively big boot which means everyday jobs like shopping or doing the school run are very straightforward.
The overall experience of driving it isn’t particularly entertaining, but it gets the job done and doesn’t hold any surprises. Predictable steering, a firm ride and good traction through the 4x4 system allow it to go about its business without being mollycoddled. Yes it can venture onto uneven terrain, but it has to be said that the Mazda is most at home on the tarmac.
You’ll be looking at some low prices for a second hand Mazda Tribute, which shouldn’t come as a shock. It actually works out very well because you get a solid car for very little money, especially if you shop at Motors.co.uk. Listing thousands of used cars for sale, you’ll be able to bag a bargain in no time at all.
Overall then, the Mazda is a good all rounder that seems to do everything quite well. It’s spacious, practical, well built and drives alright, but it’s not exceptional in any area. What it does offer though is a solid solution for people on tight budgets, and the overall versatility will appeal to families no end.
