The Mercedes A-Class is the smallest offering from the German automotive giant, but it proves that good things do come in miniature sizes. It has been described as many different things- a small MPV, a hatchback and even a super mini, but the simple fact is that it’s a brilliant car that makes you want to drive.
The A-Class has been around since 1997 and several generations have followed. While it’s considered Mercedes’ ‘entry level’ model, there’s certainly nothing basic about it as luxury comes as standard. Mercedes cars are renowned for their engines and the A-Class has a plethora of choice under the bonnet, but don’t expect to shatter any records. To this end, fuel economy and running costs are more than acceptable. As a front wheel drive car, you can certainly feel it when power is applied, but overall the handling is sharp and the ride is comfortable thanks to some high tech suspension.
While the A-Class isn’t cheap to begin with, as you’d expect being a Merc, there’s plenty of scope to get a great deal if you buy second hand.
