MG ZS
The MG ZS is a sports car based on the Rover 45 that’s phenomenal in every respect. It looks the part, drives fantastically well and proves even further how much of a national treasure the famous sporting automaker was. With real racing pedigree, this is the perfect car for drivers who want something exciting and power hungry, yet practical and easy to live with on a daily basis.
Produced between 2001 and 2005, the ZS was available as a saloon or hatchback and featured a front wheel drive setup. Powered by some beefy engines, including a 2.5 litre V6, the performance figures were excellent. Indeed the latter (in 180 guise) offered 175 horsepower and a 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds. Such speed, along with sports suspension, a racing balance and incredible handling quickly earned the MG a reputation of being a car for ‘real drivers’.
When the ZS was first released, it was kind of a wild child and sported big spoilers and body kits. However after a face lift in 2004, it became more mature and actually quite subdued, but still attractive nonetheless. Flared wheel arches and side vents are particularly sexy features. The interior has always been high quality with some striking designs and comfortable seats. There’s a decent amount of space inside, and the boot is very generous as well. Not that well equipped it has to be said, it’s not really the end of the world.
Even though it shares Rover DNA, the MG engineers have done a sterling job of transforming the ZS in to a car that drives superbly. The incredibly sharp steering, heroic levels of grip from the FWD setup and committed suspension mean you can throw it around and be confident it’ll behave; some tyre squeal lets you know when it’s getting out of shape though. Speed wise, it’s a real rocket and can really blast off the line. The V6 is the pick of the engine bunch, but there’s also a 2.0 litre diesel which hits hard too. Overall this car is a load of fun.
Finding a cheap used MG ZS is easier than you might think, especially if you shop here at Motors.co.uk. The sheer volume of second hand cars for sale listed means the odds are stacked firmly in your favour, and there are some impossible price discounts to boot. Listing nothing but the highest quality autos means you’ll get the real deal, and can drive away in the bargain of a lifetime.
Plainly, the MG ZS is a performance car through and through. What you get is something that can make you laugh and whoop with delight when pushed hard, but also remain calm and composed at regular speeds. It’s kind of a last hurrah from the famous British marque, and demands a lot of respect as a result. Skilled drivers will absolutely love it for the speed and handling, but it can also prove its worth in the practicality stakes too. A fantastic car through and through, you’ll just love it.
