Mini Cooper Clubman
The Mini Cooper Clubman name has been around for a while, and is essentially a longer version of the Mini, that’s more estate than hatchback. More practical and spacious than the regular model, it’s a better option for families who want all the fun and games associated with the famous marque, and more room inside.
While the very first Clubman was released back in 1969, the modern version came along in 2007; the Cooper name refers to a level of trim that’s second from bottom. Featuring some wonderful designs, some nice features include the ‘barn doors’ that open outwards to access the boot, and ‘Clubdoor’ that’s a similar thing on the side on the right hand side of the car. Excellent fun to drive, the 1.5 litre, 120 horsepower engine has some liveliness about it.
There’s no doubt the Cooper Clubman looks cool, but the elongated body is a bit strange at first. All the features of the standard ‘new Mini’ are there, so you get the funky front end, lovely shapes and retro paint jobs. The interior is similar too, with the great finish, chunky dials and nice colour schemes that proved hugely popular to begin with. Yes it is larger inside, but it’s still a Mini, so don’t expect minivan levels of space. The boot is 250 litres, which is enough to handle shopping.
Fantastic out on the road, the Clubman is fleet of foot, agile and very responsive. The extra weight hasn’t really hampered its characteristics, and you can throw it around and have some fun without fear of it biting back. With a 0-60mph time of around 10 seconds, it’s not overly sporty, but feels quicker than it is. Great though town, on back roads or motorways, it’s an all rounder for sure.
You’ll find a great selection of second hand Mini Cooper Clubman cars here at Motors.co.uk, and the best thing is that prices have been well and truly slashed. Quality is incredibly high though, so it’s like paying less for something akin to new. Bargain hunters know that used cars for sale pay dividends, so why not join the club?
Overall then, the Mini Clubman gives you that extra bit of space and practicality, while still retaining all the features that made the original modern version so popular. It looks good, drives very nicely and doesn’t cost a lot to run either. Families should take note, because it’s just a wonderful car to own.
