Mitsubishi Shogun Sport

The Mitsubishi Shogun Sport is a huge 4x4 that offers an incredible off road ability, a massive amount of interior space and unmissably commanding designs. It’s certainly not soft, and could probably make most modern SUVs cry. An ideal solution for individuals who need something resilient, reliable and rather hardcore, it gets on with the job and doesn’t cause a fuss. Muscular and powerful, you’ll break before it does.

This beast was introduced to the public in 1996, and had a successful 12 year production life that came to an end in 2008. Known by a plethora of different names depending on where it’s sold, each market gets the same thing- a real powerhouse that lives to be challenged. Various upgrades were made the Shogun Sport over its life, adding improved performance and most notable altering the designs- while newer models are still very imposing, they are less so than the unforgiving tanks they succeeded. Big engines were a constant throughout its life, with 3.5 litre V6 petrols and 3.2 litre turbo diesels being the top of the line.

To miss the Mitsubishi you’d have to be unable to see; it towers above everything else on the road, and you can’t help but notice the strapping styling. Newer versions feature some strong shapes, body length sills, huge tyres and a front grille that looks to be frowning. Head inside and you’ll find a shed load of space, which means 5 people can sit in comfort. Some durable materials, a simplistic but functional cockpit and an adequate boot means it’s very no nonsense but quite welcoming at the same time. Families can use it with no problem, but it’s best suited to a working market as comfort levels aren’t particularly high.

Take the Shogun Sport out on the road and you’ll be rather tepid to what it can do; the titanic size can make it difficult to manoeuvre in town, and car parks are a real challenge. However it’s easy to drive once you learn how and will do its best to please. The poor tarmac performance can be overlooked though because it’s astonishing off road. Most at home plodding along at low speeds across arduous terrain, muddy fields or broken up country lanes, it won’t give up and can get almost anywhere. While there’s a lot of traction thanks to the 4x4 system, speedy it isn’t, and while the big engines might sound good, they can’t deliver much performance the car weighs so much.

As the Mitsubishi has been out of production for a while, there’s no lack of bargains around. If you’re really serious about buying second hand however, heading over to Motors.co.uk is by far the best thing to do. With thousands of high quality pre owned cars for sale available, you’ll always get a great deal on a used Mitsubishi Shogun Sport because sizable price reductions are the norm.

Basically, if you’re the kind of person who needs a versatile, reliable and incredibly strong 4 wheel drive car for work or leisure, the Shogun Sport could be the best all round solution. Excellent value for money, imperious against the elements and terrible terrain, reliable and very hard working, you’ll be hugely impressed with what it can do. Refined and relaxing it isn’t. Powerful and physical it is.
