Peugeot 206 LX
A mid level of trim, the Peugeot 206 LX is stylish, friendly, decently equipped and great to drive. It’s a wonderful family sized hatchback that’s available as a 3 or 5 door, and has bags of personality. Reliable, secure and safe, this is a great car for urbanites, people on a budget and also families; offering a good amount of bang for your buck, it might be a few years old, but appeal is definitely not lacking. In terms of engines, there’s a wide range to choose from, including 1.1 to 1.4 litre petrols, and 1.4 to 2.0 litre diesels, so running costs are very low indeed.
It’s a good looking car, and the Peugeot 206 LX showcases everything that’s good about French design and style, although compared to the latest and greatest it’s still relatively understated. Having said that, there’s a good amount of kit like steel wheels, air con, CD player, cloth seats, full airbags, electric windows and a sunroof; add in 237 litres of boot space and practicality isn’t an issue at all. The cabin is comfortable and well put together, and kids can sit in the back with no problems. Driving wise it’s sprightly and fun, easy to manoeuvre and surefooted in the corners. Pay £1,500 used.
