Renault Kangoo Authentique
The Renault Kangoo Authentique is the entry level spec on this quirky and colourful people carrier from the French marque that shares its DNA with a van, but offers a seriously practical, comfortable and all round enjoyable approach to family motoring. Value for money and very affordable, there’s a huge amount of space inside, and driving it on a daily basis is very easy indeed. Safe, decently reliable and secure, it ticks all the right boxes, and as long as you can get over the rather boxy design, it’s a superb option to consider. Engines range from 1.6 litre petrols to 1.5 litre diesels, so running costs are nice and low too.
Indeed the Renault Kangoo Authentique is a bit commercial in appearance, but it has been nicely softened so that actually it’s more quirky than anything else. The inside is huge though, and there’s a cavernous 660 litre boot that can expand to well over 2,600 litres. Inviting and comfortable to sit in, equipment on this model includes steel wheels, a CD player, cloth seats, airbags, remote locking and electric windows; yes it might be basic, but that’s the whole idea. The usability and practicality cannot be denied though, and that’s why you’d buy it. Driving wise, it’s decently perky and responds well in the corners, plus the ride is quite soft. Pay £5,000 used.
