Rover 45
The Rover 45 is an ‘up market’ mid sized car that seems to be a mainstay on British roads despite the fact it’s been out of production for years. One of the last hurrahs from the famous company, the 45 might not be the most stylish, modern or at all fast, but it is excellent value for money. Those people looking for a solid car that’s suitable for family motoring will love it.
Essentially an upgraded version of the devastatingly boring but nonetheless popular 400, the 45 was produced between 1999 and 2005. Available in saloon and hatchback models, the Rover is incredibly well equipped and comes with a plethora of engine options. Possibly the best thing about this car, aside from the immense value, is that it spawned a sports car spin off- the MG ZS.
On the design front, the Rover is quite grand but really does look like something an ‘old boy’ would buy and think is stylish. Aside from the relatively well designed front end, the exterior is monotonous and unexciting. Things are very different inside however because the cabin is very well styled with some comfortable seats, a lot of space and no end of equipment. The boot is accommodating for shopping and luggage alike. The 45 is obviously nowhere near the most modern cars on the style front, but soldiers on bravely regardless.
To be honest the Rover is actually great to drive, and is exceptional at cruising around. The ride is soft and supple, while the handling is composed and overall there’s a solid level of grip. Several engines including a 2.0 litre turbo diesel and V6 petrol mean there’s enough grunt under the hood to get up to speed well and stay nice and calm, even on motorways.
There’s a shed load of Rovers around these days, and Motors.co.uk lists a huge selection of them. The great thing is that thanks to some eye widening price discounts and a firm approach to quality, all the used cars for sale you’ll find here are worth a look. With a second hand Rover 45, you’ll get a brilliant bargain every time.
Look, while the Rover isn’t particularly attractive, fast or sporty, it is refined, well build and incredible comfortable inside. The whole package is one of great value for money, especially if you buy pre owned, and ultimately you’ll get a good amount of bang for your buck. Families always want reliability and versatility without high costs, and that’s exactly what the 45 provides.
