There’s no doubt that the Mini is one of the most iconic cars ever produced. Many people can’t tell the difference between each model though, which is understandable as they do look the same for the most part. However, eagle eyed motorists or enthusiasts will be able to tell you how the Rover Mini is varies slightly. It’s the last hurrah before the brand went bottom up and was bought by BMW.
Yes, the Rover version was produced from 1988 to 2001 after the collapse of the British Motor Corporation. With improved engines, airbags and updated mechanics, the Mini was brought right up to date, and delivered a blast from the past that was actually quite reliable. Always fun to drive, the Mini never went out of fashion, and arguably some of the last models produced, such as the Classic Seven, Classic Cooper and Classic Cooper Sport, were some of the greatest.
So how exactly does the Rover Mini vary from other models in terms of design? Well the answer is not much. The badge is different and some versions have more flared wheel arches, but honestly the classic designs that people know and love are the same. Inside, you’ll find modern equipment such as CD players on those produced in the 1990s, but don’t expect any more space. Some lovely trims featuring higher quality materials are also available, which really give off a retro feel.
The hallmark of this car has always been its excellent driving experience, and the Rover Mini is no different. Thanks to updated suspension it handles even better than previously, and the fun factor has increased if anything. Nimble, agile and responsive it’ll go exactly where you want. Still not one for motorways, back roads and towns are its main hunting ground. The small engines are sprightly, and sportier versions are just awesome.
Widely available these days, if you check out the fantastic array of used cars for sale at Motors.co.uk, there’s every chance of locating an excellent second hand Rover Mini. The fact that high quality is the norm means any auto you see will be superb, while the drastically discounted prices let you pay less and get so much more.
Plainly then, the Rover Mini does the original car justice, and while the changes in design are minimal, the work done under its body makes all the difference. What you get is the same punchy original with some (relatively) modern engineering and reliability. Just amazing all around, there’s no doubt it’s one of the best autos ever made.
