For many years Skoda has been involved in motorsport and it first competed in the FIA World Rally Championship in1999 with a Skoda Octavia. In 2001 they came third in the Safari Rally. In the 2005 Rally Australia Colin McRae, driving a Skoda Fabia, was running second but had to retire. In 2006 the Red Bull Skoda Team came fifth in Rally Catalunya, and sixth in the 2007 Rallye Deutschland.
