Smart Roadster
Smart cars have a reputation for being small, individual and very economical. They are the perfect solution for urbanites who want an inexpensive but stylish way to travel around town. However some people were left wanting a bit more out of the experience, and Smart duly obliged with the Roadster, a tiny 2 seat sports car that’s immensely fun to get behind the wheel of.
The Smart Roadster was introduced in 2003, and enjoyed a successful production life that ended in 2006. It’s actually pretty exclusive as less than 50,000 were made, so you’re not likely to see one every time you turn a corner like other autos. Available in both coupe and cabriolet models, the Roadster is actually a superb car for real drivers who can get the most out of anything on 4 wheels.
It looks totally unique and very sporty, and there’s no question it has bags of personality. With a seek profile, some sharp angles and a front grille that looks like a big smile, it’s a great way to brighten up even the dreariest of days. The cabin is well designed and very comfortable with an array of high quality materials, nicely placed buttons and a good amount of equipment. It’s not practical by any means, but has enough room in the boot for a few shopping bags.
Let’s get this out of the way up front- the Smart is not fast. But that doesn’t matter because it has other attributes that take your mind off it; you’re sat so low to the ground anyway, so even the smallest accelerations feels speedy. The Roadster is well balanced and perfectly poised, so you can really throw it around and have some fun. There’s a shed load of grip in the corners and the handling is informative. If you’re looking for even more fun, check out the Brabus version.
You’ll have no trouble finding a great deal on a used Smart Roadster at Motors.co.uk as it’s not that expensive in the first place, but mainly because there are some significant price reductions that make you sit up and take note. With used cars for sale you can save a fortune, and that’s what everyone wants to hear.
Clearly then, the Smart Roadster is an awesome little car that is fun to drive, inexpensive to run and unbelievably stylish. Its small size makes it terrific for driving in towns, but it’s awe inspiring on country roads where you can grab it by the scruff of the neck and show it what’s what. For a good time behind the wheel, there’s not much that can better the price to enjoyment ratio of the Smart.
