Vauxhall Combo
The Vauxhall Combo is a panel van that boasts impressive levels of versatility, a great drive and a solid carrying capacity. It has to be said that the van market is relatively competitive and making a real impression is quite difficult; the Combo seems to have traversed the pitfalls and is actually a fantastic all round vehicle. Incredible reliability, low running costs and a whole lot of comfort make it hard to ignore.
There have been several generations of the Combo since its introduction in 1994, each one improving on design and performance. While the original was based on a car, the Corsa, newer models have been purpose built and are all the better for it. The Vauxhall is also available as a leisure activity vehicle/ MPV, which is popular due to a massive amount of cabin space and all around value for money package.
To look at the Combo is quintessentially Vauxhall with its sleek front end; there are some optional alloy wheels too which make the whole vehicle come alive. Look, vans aren’t the most attractive things on the road anyway, but this one certainly isn’t ugly. The interior is quite basic, but is comfortable nonetheless. It has a hardy and durable feel to it, which is exactly what you’d want in a commercial vehicle. Overall it’s competitive in terms of design.
Obviously the main reason to buy a panel van is to transport as much as possible, and the Combo doesn’t disappoint in this area. With a load volume of around 3 cubic metres and a maximum payload of around 800 kilos, it’s not short of space or muscle.
Out on the road, the Vauxhall drives well and is easy to manoeuvre around. It might not be as sharp and precise as the Astravan, another of Vauxhall’s commercial gems, but it certainly gets the job done. The ride is smooth and this makes longer journeys somewhat more comfortable. Several engine options mean you can go for performance or economy as it suits, but the standouts are the 1.3 litre and 1.9 litre petrols.
If you’re really serious about getting the best automotive bargains around, buying second hand is the only way to go. Here at Motors.co.uk you’ll see a phenomenal amount of cheap pre owned cars for sale, but the common theme between them all is a very high quality. What this means is that you’ll pay less for a used Vauxhall Combo but it’ll be a great deal better than most others. Getting the best value is important, and that’s exactly what’s on offer here.
Despite the fact they all look similar, at the end of the day buying a van is just as difficult as a car. The Vauxhall Combo makes it easier though thanks to its fantastic value, solid performance and great design. While the likes of Peugeot and Citroen are also good options, you can’t argue with good old British engineering and grit, and that’s exactly what you get with the Vauxhall.
