The Volkswagen Phaeton is a truly wonderful car, and the first all out luxury saloon made by the German company. Despite being a large car, the clever engineering gadgetry means you can alter suspension settings to get a sportier feel on back roads with tighter corners. However it’s superb as a motorway cruiser and isn’t bad around town at low speeds either. The ride is wonderfully soft and all things considered, the handling isn’t that bad. Some beastly engines mean it won’t be in one place for long, and you can choose from V6, V8 and W12 petrols, as well as V6 and V10 diesels. Hugely powerful, economy is actually quite good compared to other monsters out there.
This isn’t a cheap car at all, in fact it’s one of the most expensive VW has ever produced. However buying one second hand is by far the best way to pick up a stonking good deal.
