Audi Coupe

While common sense dictates that any Audi car in coupe form could be called an ‘Audi Coupe’, the name is actually reserved for a specific version of the Audi 80. The long serving auto was hugely popular and was the benchmark on which all future versions were based. Stylish, spacious and great fun to drive, this older car is excellent value for money today.

Introduced in 1986, the coupe stuck around until 2000, with the addition of a few updates and facelifts to keep it looking fresh. Well equipped, featuring some nicely powered engines and armed with the Quattro 4 wheel drive system, the Audi was quite a sporty car, and was very sought after for that reason. A performance model, the S2, was released in 1990, and this only gave the model increased kudos as it was impressively fast and power hungry.

Unmistakably German, the Audi Coupe looked the part and it’s easy to see why it was a firm favourite among British motorists. The purposeful design, short rear end and defined 4 ring logo made it eye catching, and some of the colour schemes were wonderfully garish too. Inside it relatively comfy and spacious, although newer versions were more forgiving. A solid amount of kit and a decent sized boot made it actually rather practical.

The best thing about the coupe was the way it drove, which was superbly to say the least. With the help of its Quattro 4x4 system, it gripped the road firmly and rarely looked out of shape. A smooth ride, sporty balance and abundance of grip made it a whole lot of fun on back roads especially. Each new upgrade brought something new to the performance party, and on the whole the engines were well powered and lively, which is exactly what you’d want from this type of car.

Listing well over 100,000 different used cars for sale, it should come as no surprise that one of the premier places to get hold of a second hand Audi Coupe is right here at The attention to detail, unshakable approach to quality and simply astonishing price reductions mean you’d have to look awfully hard to find something better elsewhere.

So if you want a 2 door car with fantastic build quality, excellent performance and all the other characteristics that are associated with the legendary German automaker, the Audi Coupe is the one to go for. It might be a blast from the past, but it still has a lot to offer and is by no means a sacrifice. While new models like the A4 may be more modern, the old school 80 is just incredible value for money.
