1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost takes 12 seconds to reach 62mph and has a fuel economy rating of 54.3mpg.

Larger 2.0-litre offers the most power with 237bhp, but reduces the efficiency to 38.2mpg.

Diesel

2.0-litre diesel outputs 148bhp, but is the most economical with a rating of 61.4mpg.
More powerful variant of the same motor offers 187bhp with a slightly reduced rating of 50.4mpg.
Smaller 1.5-litre diesel has a fuel economy rating of 70.6mpg, making it a top choice for low running costs.

Newer models have more interior room because of the longer wheelbase.

With the rear seats up, the large boot holds between 403 and 654 litres, depending on the bodystyle.
When the rear seats are down, the Mondeo has 1,605 litres of space.
