Audi Quattro

The Audi Quattro is an all time classic that’s as impressive to look at as it is to drive. It’s a beast from the 80s that enjoyed huge amounts of success as a WRC Rally car, and almost as much as a publicly available sports car. For a company that’s all about perfection, technology and refinement, this was a back to basics monster that was aggressive, boisterous and in your face. It’s a true legend.

Introduced in 1981, the Quattro was a smash hit thanks to its no-nonsense design, sporty interior and all around phenomenal driving experience. If you wanted to go somewhere fast, in style and in a blaze of noise and glory, this Audi was the perfect chariot. Although it underwent some updates in terms of various components in the subsequent years, visually it stayed the same until production ceased in 1991.

It’s important to note that the Quattro was the first car to feature Audi’s 4 wheel drive system of the same name. This is why it was such a monumental success in Rally and other motorsport genres, as the levels of grip were just astronomical. Add in mountains of power from beastly I5 engines, and it’s easy to see why victories mounted up quickly.

Technically speaking all Audis bearing the 4x4 system are known as Quattros, and while the S4 and S6 models, in addition to the TT are almost in the same league, the original car will still be miles ahead.

Having been featured in the hugely successful TV series Ashes to Ashes, and being a truly awesome car in its own right, it’s no surprise to see an increase in demand for the Quattro. You can get a decent one right here at Motors.co.uk, but be warned that they don’t hang about for long, and older models are collector’s items. With thousands of different used cars for sale at low prices, you’ll have no trouble finding a bargain second hand Audi Quattro.

The simple fact is that the Audi Quattro is an absolutely epic car that looks every bit the 80s icon. It’s mean, hostile and arrogant, but just incredible to get behind the wheel of. Considering the speed, the grip and the acceleration, it’s easy to see why anyone looking for a buzz will want to ‘fire up the Quattro’!
