In the world of 4x4s, not much can beat the Jeep Wrangler. It’s a true off-roading legend and comes from a company that has bags of history stretching back to the Second World War. The Wrangler dominates pretty much all types of terrain and is simply the best option by far if you want to head into the rough stuff.

The Jeep Wrangler was first made available back in 1987, and has well and truly blown away the competition ever since. Several generations have followed, and each one retains that rugged, durable and hardy look that has become synonymous with the brand. While it’s billed as a ‘compact 4x4’, there’s no mistaking the fact it feels like an indestructible tank, especially in its 5 door guise.

Jeeps aren’t built for luxury- if you want that look elsewhere. The commanding presence is just as obvious inside as it is on the exterior, and basic is certainly a word that comes to mind. There’s a decent amount of kit as you’d expect from an American car, but hard materials, exposed metal and rivets and uncomplicated instruments reinforce what the brand is all about. Anything else would be a travesty.

The Wrangler comes in 3 and 5 door models, and you can even take the roof off if you feel that way inclined. The latter especially has acres of space, but the smaller variant is arguably better off road. Both are practical however, and very easy to drive through anything from forests to urban jungles. A beastly engine delivers a good amount of power but is strangely economical considering the hulking great weight.
