Toyota worked with Citroen and Peugeot to design and manufacture this popular city car in 2005. The three manufacturers joined up in a cost-saving venture to create the same vehicle with different branding. From this collaboration was born the Toyota Aygo, along with the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107. All three models were loved by urban drivers and those who wanted a cheap first car. After two generations and many changes, the Aygo was discontinued in 2022.

Toyota Aygo generations
Second Generation (2014 to 2021)
The second lineup of Aygo was even bolder, with a more striking design. Created to be slightly longer than the previous generation, this Aygo offered additional front headroom even though the roof height was slightly lower. The new cabin also housed a funky interior with a 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment in the centre of the dashboard.
A refresh occurred in 2018, adding LED light signatures, an upgraded X design on the front, slightly more power than previous variants, and an updated interior. The Safety Sense system also helped to keep occupants protected on the road thanks to active safety technologies.

First Generation (2005 to 2014)
From the onset, the Aygo offered a wide front grille with an all-glass hatch to give it a striking appearance. It was meant to be playful and every design element backed that up. Various special edition models were released, with different trim options and colours for better personalisation. The top of the lineup, the Platinum, was given luxury touches, such as leather upholstery.
Its small design didn't stop Toyota from including the top safety features. It was one of the safest in its class, with optional side and curtain airbags, traction control, vehicle stability control and Isofix rear child seat mounts.

Use Toyota Aygo FAQ's
Is the Toyota Aygo a good car to buy?
As a city car from Toyota, it's worth the money. It has small dimensions that allow it to zip around town, but it's not overly powerful and it won't provide a race-car-like response.
What is the Toyota Aygo equivalent to?
The Toyota Aygo was made to be nearly identical to the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108.
Is the Aygo smaller than a Yaris?
The Aygo is slightly smaller than the Toyota Yaris, so it's a great option for first-time drivers or anyone who needs a city car to get in and out of tight spaces. The Yaris is better-suited for drivers who want a little more interior space.
Is the Toyota Aygo a four-seater?
Yes, both the three- and five-door Aygo provide four seats among the two rows. There's more interior space than you might expect, but the back seat is best reserved for children or smaller adults, as it could become cramped on longer drives.
Is the Toyota Aygo made in Japan?
No, the Aygo was created in partnership between Citroen and Peugeot, so all Aygo models were manufactured at the Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile (TCPA) facility located in the Czech Republic.
